Settled in to her new state-of-the-art kitchen, Barhyte’s Saucy Mama has been busy whipping up new recipes and holding court in the culinary dream kitchen. The company moved into its newly renovated space in Pendleton, Oregon this winter, with all hands on deck. “The space really is beautiful and is a delightful place for visitors, and for my mother, to fully take advantage of her cooking skills,” says Chris Barhyte, president of sales and marketing for Barhyte Specialty Foods. In the coming months, the company will offer cooking classes, as well as a visitor’s center with an educational kiosk in the new facility. It also will include a small deli offering locally made sandwiches and gourmet fare, allowing visitors to sample Barhyte Specialty Food’s wide range of award-winning marinades, dressings and mustards. Barhyte plans to host a grand opening celebration in Spring 2008. The company broke ground last year, undertaking a remodel to update its corporate offices and create a new, 1,800-foot showroom and test kitchen overlooking the Pendleton Valley. From its new façade to the showroom, kitchen, offices, and outdoor patio area, the entire remodel reflects Barhyte’s attention to quality and innovation. The new showroom features a display area with a continuous loop video of the manufacturing facility in Pendleton, as well as a sampling area where guests can experience the full line-up of Barhyte Specialty Foods’ signature dressings, marinades, mustards, and other condiments. Barhyte Specialty Foods, based out of Pendleton, Oregon, has roots dating back 200 years and 6,000 miles away in Germany, where Jacobus Barhyte first created a sweet and sour mustard that he brought to the US. Many generations later, Jan and Susan Barhyte began selling mustard from the original recipe, as well as other signature creations, through their Swift and Martin Station Deli. Thanks to overwhelming demand, the family launched their own manufacturing operation in 1977. Today, the company offers more than 65 award-winning mustards, marinades, sauces, and other condiments.
